ADAM LOOKING GLASS £17,500
A GEORGE III OVAL GILTWOOD MIRROR WITH ORIGINAL MIRROR PLATE CIRCA 1775, AFTER A DESIGN BY ROBERT ADAM.
This neoclassical giltwood oval looking glass displays all the hallmarks of Robert Adam. The oval mirror plate is contained within a moulded frame carved with gadroons and beads divided by a fluted ground. The classical urn crestings with a spray of wheat ears and flowers rest upon gathered acanthus leaves with trailing garlands of husks, uniting the urn handles and flowing through the leaf scrolls to each side, joining the sides of the frames. The apron, formed of double scrolling branches and leaves, is decorated with patarea and supported by s-shaped leaf sprays.
